Survey lifts lid on Britain’s e-moral emailers
A survey suggests more than half British workers send unethical emails.
NOP says its research into corporate inboxes shows online back-stabbing, sexism and discrimination is rife.
They also found the medium is increasingly used for Machiavellian purposes to win power and influence in the office.
The survey – which was commissioned by SurfControl – found that hitting the ‘reply all’ button become a favoured way of landing colleagues in trouble.
It is also used to pass the buck or avoid facing up to sensitive situations.
But NOP’s research unearthed more offensive activities beneath the surface.
Nearly 30% of those questioned admitted to sending racist, pornographic and discriminatory emails while at work.
The survey focussed on white collar workers in eight of the UK’s largest cities.
Apparently Londoners are the worst offenders. They were closely followed by workers in Leeds and Cardiff.
