There are some advantages to driving an older car.
One advantage is that if the car breaks, pretty much anyone (who has walked the earth 35 years or more) can fix the car without you spending an arm and leg on parts and computers and such. Disadvantage could be finding those parts.
But a great advantage to driving an older car is if you get rear ended. Like I did this morning in school traffic. Dumb bimbo driving a brand new Mercedes slammed into the back of me – hard enough so that had I not had my foot on my brake, I would have hit the brand new Honda in front of me. I had me foot on the brake so no sweat there.
The Mercedes lady got out of her car and surveyed the damage, as did I. Her car was somewhat smashed in the front. Mine did not have a scratch. Not even a fleck of paint was gone from my car. As I smugly compared my car to hers, and silently pondered the benefits of screaming !whiplash! – she *does* have a Mercedes – Of course the thought is there!! I asked her if she wanted to call the cops and make a report. Hell, we wouldn’t even have to call ’em – there’s a cop standing right in front of the school. She declined. I suspect she declined because she was on her cellphone when she slammed into me, and she wasn’t exactly doing the school zone speed, and she’s probably hoping I don’t scream !!whiplash!!
